The New Zealand Nursing Council, in collaboration with the International Qualified Nurses Council, has introduced a new theoretical and practical examination (OSCE) system to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process.

The theoretical exam includes 120 to 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) distributed between Part A and Part B.

Total Cost: NZD 140

If a candidate fails one part of the theoretical exam, they do not need to retake both parts. They only need to retake the failed part, with the associated fee.

OSCE Exam: Practical Assessment for Nurses

The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a hands-on practical assessment.
The OSCE exam must be taken in New Zealand and involves a three-day process:

Two-Day Orientation:

Conducted by the New Zealand Nursing Council in partnership with University of Canterbury..

OSCE Exam:

 Conducted on the third day at the Nursing Simulation Center in Christchurch, which includes 10 assessment stations.

Spend 12 minutes per station:

 2 minutes for reading instructions and 10 minutes for execution. The total cost for the OSCE assessment is NZD 3,500,

which includes:

Orientation Exam: NZD 500
OSCE Exam: NZD 3,000
Similar to the theoretical exam, candidates have three attempts to pass the OSCE exam.

To accommodate international candidates, theoretical exams are available in various countries, including India.Theoretical exam is delivered world wide through person vue testing centers However, the OSCE exam must be taken in Maude simulation center in Christchurch New Zealand.
